Hi!  My name is Mike Hitch and I was born, raised and live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Though my profession and education is in a very technical area (engineering), I have always been very interested in history - especially local and family history. In that vein, I have been studying and documenting my findings in family/local history for over 25 years. With this blog I hope to share some of the things I have found.

 

If you are interested in family history and have ancestors that lived in the early times on the Delmarva peninsula, chances are you relate to one or more of my family lines. I keep tweaking and expanding my genealogical research and periodocally uploading my file. That file now encompasses over 30,000 individuals and can be accessed using the Genealogy Page button above. When you view the massive amount of data there, just know that some lines are exhaustively researched and documented and some are more loosely assembled. It is a work in-progress and a labor of love. While I began with Adam Hitch, my 7x great grandfather, this file includes many, many other families.

 

I have been very active on the Board for the Edward H. Nabb Center for Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury (MD) University and currently serve as the Chair. Plus, I have been fortunate enough to have authored two books on local history (so far!) - one a complete descendancy of Adam Hitch (1658-1731) of Old Somerset County in Maryland that I completed in 2007 and the other a co-authorship with my distant cousin Elinor Mowbray of South Carolina where we brought to life a cache of letters and other things she found in her house relative to Private Young H. E. Hitch (1825-1864) of the 16th South Carolina Infantry during the Civil War. You can access more information on these and how to order from the links above.
